Along with his colleagues Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures in postwar American design. Although the focus of his work was textile design, Girard was also widely recognized for his work in graphic arts and the creation of furniture, exhibition spaces, and interior architecture.
